The IPL mega auction is around the corner! This time, some intense bidding wars are expected as so many cricket superstars are up for grabs. With the likes of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are in the auction pool, it will certainly be an epic spectacle!
Let’s take a look at the released players – no longer with their old teams – but are expected to break the bank in the forthcoming IPL 2025 Mega Auction due to their rare T20 utility, skill and talent!
10. Sam Curran
Punjab Kings (PBKS) spent a hefty INR 18.50 crore to acquire the services of Sam Curran in the last season. The England all-rounder has not been retained and is back in the auction pool to trigger bidding wars again. Since he gives immense value with both bat and ball, many teams will vie for him.

The powerful Australian all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis is another rare commodity that will be a lot of interest for many teams at the 2025 IPL Auction table. 7. Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel, Purple Cap winner in IPL 2024 with 24 wickets, is a rare bowler in the IPL auction with excellent back-end bowling ability. The fast bowler often goes under the radar but has been the highest wicket-taker for the teams he has played for in the recent seasons.
Mohammed Siraj’s release from RCB came as surprise for many. An experienced fast bowler who has been an all-format bowler for Indian cricket team now is expected to attract a high bid at the mega auction.

Another opening batman and wicketkeeper, KL Rahul brings a lot to the table. Add to that, the leadership skill. As an IPL franchise think-tank, who wouldn’t want all these traits?
The explosive opening batsman and wicket-keeper, Ishan Kishan has been a hot pick in IPL Auction over the years. Again, he will be on the radar of many teams and go for plenty.

Do you agree with our top 10 to attract big offers in the IPL 2025 auction? Let us know.
IPL 2025 squad strategies and plans are being laid out as we await another thrilling edition of Indian Premier League.
What is RTM (Right to Match) Card and How does it Work?
In IPL Auction, teams have a special card called a “Right to Match” (RTM) card, which lets them buy back players.
What is an RTM Card? It is simply a right that a team can exercise to get a player back if someone else is about to win them in the auction. They teams usually try to get players back at a lower price with an RTM.
How Many RTMs Does Each Team Get? The number of RTM cards a team has depends on how many players they’ve already kept on their team before the auction. Before retention, every team starts with six possible RTMs. For each player a team retains ahead of auction, they lose one RTM. Example, if a team retains two players, they’ll have three RTM cards to exercise at Mega Auction.
How Does an RTM Card Work? During the auction, if another team is about to buy one of their old players, the original team can use an RTM to match the highest bid and get the player back. For the IPL 2025 edition, there is a slight twist. The highest-bidding team now gets one more chance to increase their offer. If they do, the original team can decide if they still want the player for that price.
Now that all eyes are on IPL 2025 Mega Auction and RTM strategy of teams, let’s get straight to it.

We are all set for 2025 IPL Mega Auction! Ahead of the Indian Premier League 2025 season, let’s take a look at what could be the targets for each of the 10 teams at auction on 24 November.
1. Sunrisers Hyderabad
In Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, SRH have managed to retain their explosive opening combination. They certainly will look for a #3 batsman like Venkatesh Iyer at the auction table.
Nitish Reddy is likely to bat no.4 for Sunrisers Hyderabad while the destructive Heinrich Klaasen can keep wickets and well as be the finisher for the side.
In the bowling department, Hyderabad IPL Team can target a quality spinner like Yuzvendra Chahal or lesser-known Sai Kishore. They are also short on Indian fast bowlers stocks and can go after Harshal Patel or Arshdeep Singh. Also, it won’t be a surprise if they bid for the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar or T Natarajan again.
Players Retained: Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins
2. Royal Challengers Bengaluru
RCB have only retained three players ahead of the auction which leaves a room for a lot. First they need an explosive opener to partner King Kohli! Ishan Kishan, Quinton de Kock, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow or KL Rahul can be help Bengaluru IPL team fill two positions – opening batsman and wicket-keeper.
In the middle order, Royal Challengers Bengaluru need power of someone like Marcus Stoinis. Glenn Maxwell heading back to RCB is another possibility, but for a low price.
In bowling department, RCB can be bring back quality spinner in Yuzvendra Chahal and can bid for the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada or Mitchell Starc.
Players Retained: Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Yash Dayal
Among the batters, CSK are likely to buy back Devon Conway to partner captain Ruturaj at the top of batting order. They may also bid for the Indian middle-order batsmen like Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer.
Ravichandran Ashwin coming back to CSK is doing rounds after RR released the offie. Washington Sundar is another local lad who can be a target of Chennai IPL team. Sam Curran is another utility player who can make a way back to CSK. We may also see Arshdeep Singh in yellow.
With Ricky Ponting at the helm, Aussie coach can try re-unite with and go all-out for Rishabh Pant since Punjab Kings are looking for a captain option.
There is a lot of work for PBKS to do at the auction table since they are making the team from the scratch.
They may exercise RTM options on Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada and Liam Livingstone. Super-strikers like Mitch Marsh and Marcus Stoinis may draw Punjab IPL Team’s interest.
Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan can open the batting for GT but still they can target wicket-keeper batsmen such as Phil Salt, Ishan Kishan, Quinton de Kock, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow or KL Rahul.
The middle-order options will be explored and the best available options are Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer.
Among bowlers, we may see Gujarat IPL Team’s interest in Arshdeep Singh, Deepak Chahar, Kagiso Rabada, Harshal Patel and Mitchell Starc.
Players Retained: Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan, Rashid Khan,
7. Kolkata Knight Riders
The reigning champs, KKR may bid and buy back Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Phil Salt. In the middle order, they can bring Venkatesh Iyer back at the mega auction.
There will be KKR interest in fast bowlers like Arshdeep Singh, Deepak Chahar, Kagiso Rabada, Harshal Patel and Mitchell Starc.
Lucknow Super Giants don’t have opener and are likely to go hard to acquire Jos Buttler. For the slow track at home Ekana Stadium, LSG may push for quality spin bowling options like Yuzvendra Chahal or someone like Sai Kishore.
Players Retained: Ayush Badoni, Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan
9. Mumbai Indians
MI will eye lesser-priced alternative of Ishan Kishan at the top of the order. However, they can go after Jos Buttler as well.
Adam Zampa and Trent Boult will be among the other targets since Mumbai IPL Team would look to buy high-profile bowling options
Jos Buttler was a surprising release but they can go after him but only if he doesn’t go too high during bidding. They will need fast bowling as well as spin bowling options, and those will be the primary targets – the likes of Mitchell Starc, Jofra Archer, Trent Boult, Khaleel Ahmed, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, Adam Zampa.
