Cricket Career

Nitish Reddy loved cricket from a very tender age. He would spend a lot of time watching older players at the Hindustan Zinc grounds in Visakhapatnam where his father was posted. Mutyala Reddy, father of Nitish and a former employee of Hindustan Zinc, recognized his son’s potential at an early age and quit his job so that his son’s cricketing career would take off.

Nitish Kumar Reddy with his parents

“We used to travel 30 km from Gajuwaka to Port Stadium at 5 am each day. It was possible because of my wife Manasa who used to get everything ready before time. She supported us despite not knowing anything about the game,” recalled father, Mutyala Reddy.

“We struggled financially after I left the job. It was tough to manage the family. We sailed through with our savings, but we made sure Nitish got all the support,” said the proud father.

“I was 12 or 13 when my dad quit his job. He was transferred to Udaipur. He analyzed the cricket there and was afraid of the politics that might affect my game. He quit his job and dedicated his time to my game. Relatives questioned his decisions. He is the first person who believed in me,” said Nitish hoping to repay his father’s sacrifices.

Nitish’s cricket journey received impetus at the VDCA camps, in the stewardship of mentors like Kumara Swamy, Krishna Rao, and Watekar.

The 2017-18 Vijay Merchant Trophy heroics in junior cricket put the spotlight on Nitish.  The young Andhra batsman smashed a quadruple century, 441 against Nagaland in just 345 deliveries. His aggregate of the tournament – 1237 runs at an average of 176.41 and 26 wickets – earned him the prestigious BCCI ‘Best Cricketer in the Under-16’ Jagmohan Dalmiya award for the season 2017-2018. It was at this award function that he clicked a picture with childhood hero Virat Kohli.

“This was a safety photo. At that time, he was so famous. I felt like maybe if I don’t get a photo, let’s take a picture. It reminds me of my childhood dreams and everything,” Nitish said in a video uploaded by BCCI.

“From childhood, I have been a huge fan of Virat Kohli and I used to watch every match of his. He scores hundreds and I like his celebrations. At that time, I used to calculate my age so that he wouldn’t retire when I made my debut for India.”

In January 2020, Nitish Kumar Reddy made his FC debut for Andhra Pradesh in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy, and soon after came his List A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2021.

Nitish Reddy made his T20I debut in 2024 and put on some excellent performances in the coveted Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. A fast-bowling all-rounder is a rare breed that the Indian Cricket Team is always on the lookout for. After Hardik Pandya, India has found one of the prospects who can fill the void and is exactly the reason he is touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket!

Nitish Reddy IPL

Not many know that Nitish was taken on board by the Chennai Super Kings as a net bowler for the IPL season 2021.

In the 2023 IPL auction, Nitish was rewarded for his outstanding performances in the domestic circuit as Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him for ₹20 lakh. Nitish Kumar Reddy won the Emerging Player of the Season award at the 2024 Indian Premier League season.

For the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League, Nitish Reddy was retained by SRH for INR 6 Crore after a breakthrough season where he impressed with his all-round skills.

“Playing for SunRisers Hyderabad fills me with pride. As a Telugu speaker, I am proud to represent my region and play for SRH. The price tag doesn’t matter for me; my focus is on performing and helping my team win. I received interest from other franchises, but I can’t really think of playing for any other franchise. I only wanted to play for SRH. They showed trust in me initially, and now I’m committed to repay their trust,” said Nitish Reddy after being retained by SRH for IPL 2025.

Jasprit Bumrah Biography: Age, Stats, Wife, Wickets, Net Worth, Family

Jasprit Bumrah is a generational player who has carved out a special place in the annals of Indian cricket. That’s some saying considering he is still playing. It’s not normal for a player to be considered a legend when he is just 31. For context, Michael Hussey, Australia’s legendary cricketer who earned the nickname “Mr. Cricket,” didn’t play Test cricket for Australia until he was 30. Cricketers are typically considered to reach their peak performance around the age of 30. With Bumrah only 31, it spells trouble for batsmen worldwide, as he’s only going to get more dangerous.

But his journey from obscurity to world-beater hasn’t been straightforward. How could it be? Legends aren’t born. They are made by hardships, by the insurmountable hurdles and odds that can kill the dream of a normal person. But Bumrah is not normal. He made himself special.

Jasprit Bumrah’s Domestic Cricket Journey

Domestic

Before becoming the world’s best, Jasprit Bumrah had to deal with a lot of hardship and adversity. In 2010, he took participation in the Under-19 district trials for the Gujarat Cricket Association. Believe it or not, he wasn’t selected because of his uncanny bowling action which the selectors didn’t like. But he did find a place amongst the reserves, and played one match in the tournament, picking up seven wickets.

Bumrah made his domestic T20 debut for Gujarat in the 2013-14 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which is India’s most important domestic T20 competition. He caught everyone’s attention with his breathtaking performances, most notably in the final, where he picked up three wickets. Gujarat lifted the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Bumrah hogged the limelight.

With Bumrah making all the right noise in the domestic cricket circle, his uncanny bowling action and performances garnered attention. On 18 March 2013, when Bumrah was playing for Gujarat against Mumbai, the then Mumbai Indians head coach John Wright was also in the ground, scouting for the team. The former India coach was impressed and invited Bumrah to sign for Mumbai Indians. As they say, the rest is the history.

During the 2013–14 domestic season, Bumrah made his first-class debut for Gujarat against Vidarbha. The mercurial bowler claimed seven wickets across two innings as Gujarat won by an innings and one run.

Bumrah was in the spotlight again during the 2015–16 Vijay Hazare Trophy, as umpires raised objections on his bowling action. But the issue was resolved soon when the team management protested against the objection.

Jasprit Bumrah’s IPL Journey

As previously mentioned, Bumrah impressed John Wright during a match in the 2023-14 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Bumrah signed for MI and has been playing for the franchise ever since.

But the success for Bumrah didn’t come easily. He played only 17 matches for Mumbai Indians in the first three seasons – 2 in the first and 4 in the third season. His breakthrough season came during the IPL 2016 season when he claimed 15 wickets in 14 matches. Most impressed aspect of his stats was his bowling economy, which he kept below 8.

Jasprit Bumrah’s International Cricket Journey

After impressing in domestic cricket, Bumrah was selected for India’s white-ball tour of Australia in 2016. The Men in Blue lost the first four matches of that series, and the Indian team management decided to ring in some changes for the final match. Quite characteristically, Bumrah produced an immaculate display of bowling, giving away only 40 runs in 10 overs, the best figures by an Indian bowler on the day. He ended the match with two wickets, including the wicket of Steve Smith, who became his first scalp in ODIs.

He picked up three wickets in 3.3 overs and ended the match with figures of 3/23, with David Warner becoming his first wicket in international T20 cricket. Since then, he has represented India in 70 T20I matches, taking 149 wickets.

Bumrah’s biggest T20 moment came during the 2024 T20I World Cup, when he guided Team India to the title, India’s first ICC trophy since 2013 and first T20I title since 2007. During the tournament, while playing 8 matches, Bumrah picked up 15 wickets at a sensational economy of 4.17. It remains the best economy rate recorded by a player in the ICC T20I World Cup.
