Yashasvi Jaiswal Biography: What Makes Him So Special?

Other sports in India can learn a lot from cricket. Indiaโ€™s favorite pastime has created a robust ecosystem where quality players keep emerging. When Sunil Gavaskar retired, Indian cricket fans were worried about who would replace him, but then came Sachin Tendulkar. Everyone thought more or less the same when Sachin retired, but we found Virat Kohli. And now, Yashasvi Jaiswal looks like the player who is ready to take over the reins from Kohli himself, as the next superstar batsman for Team India in all formats.

What makes Yashavi Jaiswal a special player is not only his supreme cricket skills, but also his humble background. His success is built on overcoming countless struggles and challenges. Despite from a very poor family, Jaiswal was determined to become a cricketer, a dream he cherished from a very young age.

At an age when most children are busy making demands from their parents โ€“ whether itโ€™s for buying new shoes or expensive mobile โ€“ Jaiswal had just one wish: to go to Mumbai and play cricket. He was only 10 years old at the time when he moved to Mumbai and in this journey, his father stood firmly by his side.

During an interview with BBCโ€™s Test Match Special IPL Podacst, Jasiwal said โ€“

โ€œI just really wanted to play cricket but in India, in a village, itโ€™s not easy to get an opportunityโ€.ย

โ€œMy seniors, they were telling me if you want to play cricket just go to Mumbai.ย

โ€œThat one thing stuck in my head โ€“ whenever I went to sleep or when talking to my mum, I told her I wanted to go to Mumbai.โ€

He moved to Mumbai where his only contact was an uncle whose who lived in Worli. But it was the start of his struggle. He took a job in a daily shop, but was fired after only two months for preferring cricket over the job.

To support himself, Jaiswal then found work with the owner of a roadside pani puri stall. He also played corporate matches to earn extra money. He often put a bet on his wicket, offering INR 100 to anyone who could dismiss him, and would get the same amount if they couldnโ€™t.

Fate Intervened

Jaiswal wasnโ€™t finding any success and so, his father decided to take his son back. But fate had other intentions.

On that fateful day, Jaiswal was playing at Mumbaiโ€™s famous Azaad Maidan. Jwala Singh, who runs a cricket academy in Mumbai, was present at the maidan that day, scouting for talent he could take back to his academy. Jwala Singh could see the immense talent in Jaiswal and asked the young boy to join his academy. That day marked a turning point in Jaiswalโ€™s life, altering his fate forever.

Top 5 Test Matches Between India and Australia (in the 21st Century)

The biggest of all rivalries in cricket is between India and Australia in Test cricket. Over the years, we have witnessed some unforgettable matches. More so, the competition has been fierce in the 21st Century. Since we are amid a Border-Gavaskar Trophy that has lived up to the hype every single time, letโ€™s take a look at the top 5 India vs Australia test matches in the 21st century.ย

1. Kolkata Test, 2001

The 2001 Kolkata Test is often called the greatest test match in cricket history. Some cricket pundits also refer to it as โ€˜The Miracle at Eden Gardensโ€™ย

India were battered and bruised and up against the strongest Australian side ever. After the loss in the first match of the 2001 IND vs AUS test series, India were reeling and staring at a humiliating defeat after being asked to follow on.ย

India found two heroes in VVS Laxman (281) and Rahul Dravid (180) who forged a legendary 376-run partnership to turn the game on its head.ย

India needed another miracle with the ball. Cometh the hour cometh the man โ€“ Harbhajan Singh! Harbhajan Singh took a historic hat-trick to crush Aussie to seal a sensational 171-run victory. What a great comeback it was!ย

2. Gabba Test, 2021

This is the most recent and one of Indiaโ€™s greatest overseas wins in test cricket. Gabba Stadium in Birsbane has been an impregnable fortress for the Australian Cricket Team for a long time, and before this test, they had not lost here for 32 years.

In the fourth innings, India were facing an uphill task of chasing down a mammoth 328. Rishabh Pant (89 not out) and Cheteshwar Pujara led the charge for India. After a long resistance and hard-fought day 5, India managed to do the unthinkable and breach the Gabba fortress.ย

3. Mohali Test, 2010

The Mohali test in 2010 is remembered by cricket fans for a nervy, nail-biting finish. It was one of the rare tests where the tailenders and lower-order batting helped India win the match.

In the fourth Innings, India were reeling at 124/8 in pursuit of a 216-run target. VVS Laxman, renowned as Very Very Special Laxman for a reason among the Australian cricket fraternity, stood between Aussies and their rare chance of victory on Indian soil.ย

VVS battled with injury and guided the likes of Ishant Sharma (31 off 92 balls) and Pragyan Ojha, farming strike and eventually winning the match for Team India.

4. Perth Test, 2008

Perth Test 2008 is another fairytale win for the Indian cricket team. Against all odds and at WACA, Perthโ€”a venue where Aussie had not lost in over a decade โ€“ India scripted history with a spirited performance.

At the start of the test match, India were 0-2 down in the series. Also, there was the outbreak of the infamous Monkeygate scandal before the match that made Indian cricketers villains by the Australian media.

The match-winning contributions from Irfan Pathan and a swing-bowling masterclass by RP Singh helped India to a memorable victory.

5. Adelaide Test, 2020

India faced a humiliating defeat at the hands of Australia and were bowled out for their lowest team total in Test cricket of 36. The turnaround after is what makes the Adelaide Test the most cherishing.

With Virat Kohli not available for the match and injury-hit squad, India had to make several changes. It looked like that another embarrassing defeat was a certainty.ย

India coach Ravi Shastri gathered the team and said: โ€˜Wear this 36 like a badge on your sleeves and you will be a great teamโ€™. And, the rest is history!

Ajinkya Rahane led India to a famous win with exceptional performances from debutants like Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj.ย

What a dream test series it was for the Indian cricket team fans!

Jasprit Bumrah Biography: Age, Stats, Wife, Wickets, Netย Worth,ย Family

Jasprit Bumrah is a generational player who has carved out a special place in the annals of Indian cricket. Thatโ€™s some saying considering he is still playing. Itโ€™s not normal for a player to be considered a legend when he is just 31. For context, Michael Hussey, Australiaโ€™s legendary cricketer who earned the nickname โ€œMr. Cricket,โ€ didnโ€™t play Test cricket for Australia until he was 30. Cricketers are typically considered to reach their peak performance around the age of 30. With Bumrah only 31, it spells trouble for batsmen worldwide, as heโ€™s only going to get more dangerous.

But his journey from obscurity to world-beater hasnโ€™t been straightforward. How could it be? Legends arenโ€™t born. They are made by hardships, by the insurmountable hurdles and odds that can kill the dream of a normal person. But Bumrah is not normal. He made himself special.

Jasprit Bumrahโ€™s Domestic Cricket Journey

Domestic

Before becoming the worldโ€™s best, Jasprit Bumrah had to deal with a lot of hardship and adversity. In 2010, he took participation in the Under-19 district trials for the Gujarat Cricket Association. Believe it or not, he wasnโ€™t selected because of his uncanny bowling action which the selectors didnโ€™t like. But he did find a place amongst the reserves, and played one match in the tournament, picking up seven wickets.

Bumrah made his domestic T20 debut for Gujarat in the 2013-14 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which is Indiaโ€™s most important domestic T20 competition. He caught everyoneโ€™s attention with his breathtaking performances, most notably in the final, where he picked up three wickets. Gujarat lifted the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Bumrah hogged the limelight.

With Bumrah making all the right noise in the domestic cricket circle, his uncanny bowling action and performances garnered attention. On 18 March 2013, when Bumrah was playing for Gujarat against Mumbai, the then Mumbai Indians head coach John Wright was also in the ground, scouting for the team. The former India coach was impressed and invited Bumrah to sign for Mumbai Indians. As they say, the rest is the history.

During the 2013โ€“14 domestic season, Bumrah made his first-class debut for Gujarat against Vidarbha. The mercurial bowler claimed seven wickets across two innings as Gujarat won by an innings and one run.

Bumrah was in the spotlight again during the 2015โ€“16 Vijay Hazare Trophy, as umpires raised objections on his bowling action. But the issue was resolved soon when the team management protested against the objection.

Jasprit Bumrahโ€™s IPL Journey

As previously mentioned, Bumrah impressed John Wright during a match in the 2023-14 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Bumrah signed for MI and has been playing for the franchise ever since.

But the success for Bumrah didnโ€™t come easily. He played only 17 matches for Mumbai Indians in the first three seasons โ€“ 2 in the first and 4 in the third season. His breakthrough season came during the IPL 2016 season when he claimed 15 wickets in 14 matches. Most impressed aspect of his stats was his bowling economy, which he kept below 8.

Jasprit Bumrahโ€™s International Cricket Journey

After impressing in domestic cricket, Bumrah was selected for Indiaโ€™s white-ball tour of Australia in 2016. The Men in Blue lost the first four matches of that series, and the Indian team management decided to ring in some changes for the final match. Quite characteristically, Bumrah produced an immaculate display of bowling, giving away only 40 runs in 10 overs, the best figures by an Indian bowler on the day. He ended the match with two wickets, including the wicket of Steve Smith, who became his first scalp in ODIs.

Three days later, on January 26, 2016, Bumrah made his T20I debut for India, and again, he was Indiaโ€™s best bowler. He picked up three wickets in 3.3 overs and ended the match with figures of 3/23, with David Warner becoming his first wicket in international T20 cricket. Since then, he has represented India in 70 T20I matches, taking 149 wickets.

Bumrahโ€™s biggest T20 moment came during the 2024 T20I World Cup, when he guided Team India to the title, Indiaโ€™s first ICC trophy since 2013 and first T20I title since 2007. During the tournament, while playing 8 matches, Bumrah picked up 15 wickets at a sensational economy of 4.17. It remains the best economy rate recorded by a player in the ICC T20I World Cup. Also, in the mega final match against South Africa, he gave away 18 runs and picked up two wickets.

For reasons unknown, Bumrah had to wait until 2018 for his Test debut. One possible reason might be that Bumrah was seen as a white-ball specialist. But he proved everyone wrong after picking up a five-wicket haul in the third match of his debut Test series against South Africa in 2018.

What happened in the last day-night test between India and Australia?ย

The last day-night test between India and Australia was in December 2020. It is remembered for the infamous 36 all-out as India was bowled out to their lowest total in Test cricket.

The match had begun with India getting to a respectable 244 in the first innings. In reply, Australia conceded India a lead of 53 runs, having bowled out for 191. The second innings of the test was embarrassing for India as Josh Hazlewood (5/8) ripped through Indian batting. With only 90 to get, Australia secured a comfortable 8-wicket victory.

What to Expect in India vs Australia 2024 day-night Test?

India vs Australia is arguably the biggest cricket rivalry. The fans are in for a treat when these two cricketing heavyweights lock horns in the day-night test at Adelaide, starting on 6 December 2024.ย

Rohit Sharma returns after missing the first test due to personal reasons, Virat Kohli is back in form and Yashasvi Jaiswal shining bright. India has an assured batting lineup heading into the contest. Pace trio have asserted dominance over the Aussies in their backyard and with Ravichandran Ashwinโ€™s proven record with pink ball, India has all bases coveredย

On the other hand, Australia are banking on their pink ball track record and experienced bowlers. Aussies are a great exponent of pink ballโ€™s extra swing and seam movement and present a new challenge before Indian batsmen. However, they will sorely miss Josh Hazlewood who has been ruled out with an injury.

One thing for sure, it will be a high-octane cricket contest between the equals. Make sure you tune in and witness history as it unfolds.

What makes the Pink Ball Test different from the Red Ball test?

  1. Under lights: The traditional test cricket has always been played with the red ball (red cherry ball). The day-night test/pink ball test was played in 2015 to target white-ball audiences who enjoy watching cricket under lights.
  2. No Draws: There has not been any instance of a drawn match in day-night tests thus far. All pink-ball tests have produced results.
  3. Challenging Twilight Period: The players who have played in day-night tests often talk about how the transition between daylight and artificial lights proves challenging. During the twilight period, the batsmen often struggle with the visibility of the ball while the bowlers get more swing to pose threats to their counterparts.

PM XI vs India Practice Match Key Performances

India cricket team had thorough practice at a pink-ball warm-up against the Prime Minister XI at Manuka Oval. After a washed-out Day 1 of the two-day match, it was a 50-over-a-side match.

India vs Australia 2025: 1st Test Match Analysis and Key Performance

Indian National Cricket Team has scripted history Down Under, hammering Australia by 295 Runs in Perth. Under the stand-in captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah, Indian Cricket pulled off one of the most iconic overseas Test victories in the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.ย

India vs Australia 2025: 1st Test Match Analysisย

Captain Jasprit Bumrah put on an inspired performance, as he always does with the ball. The fast bowler claimed eight wickets in the match, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings.ย

India were battered in the first day of the Perth Test, having bowled out for a meager 150 to start the tour. Then Jaspirt Bumrah proved why he is the best bowler in the world, pegging Aussies back with a fiery spell of fast bowling.

It was one of the best bowling performances in an overseas Test by an Indian captain. Letโ€™s dive into detail as the action unfolded on each day of the test match.

Day 1: India off to the worst possible start with the bat, Bumrah to the rescueย

India was welcomed to Australian shores with a spicy pitch. India won the toss and elected to bat first in bowling-friendly conditions. In the first session, India were reeling and found themselves in a spot of bother. Eventually, India were bundled for a modest total of 150.ย

In reply, Australia too had some trouble coping with a lethal spell of fast bowling from the Indian pace trio of Bumrah, Siraj, and Rana. In particular, Jasprit Bumrah breathed fire to reduce Australia to 67/7 at the end of Day 1.

Day 2: Jaiswal & KL Rahul stitch together a record partnership

It was not long before India wrapped Australiaโ€™s first innings for 104 on Day 2. After the bowlers helped ICT get back in the match, the onus was on batsmen now to assert dominance over the Oz. The Indian opening duo of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal frustrated the experienced Australian pace attack for the entire day and went unbeaten at the stumps on the second day.

Day 3: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli centuries put India in Driverโ€™s Seat

Indiaโ€™s openers resumed from where they had left and piled runs. A record-breaking 201-run partnership between the two is the highest opening partnership by a visiting team in Australia since 1991.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (161) scored a scintillating hundred on his first test outing in Australia. Virat Kohli also racked up his 30th Test century to add misery for the hosts and bat them out of the match. The declaration came at 487/6d, setting Australia an imposing target of 534 runs.

The mighty Aussies faltered under pressure once again in the second innings. At the end of Day 3, Australiaโ€™s score read 12/3

Day 4: India breach Perth fortress, set the tone for BGT 2024-25 series

Australians started tentatively in the pursuit of 534 on Day 4 morning. However, the scoreboard pressure was too much and the Indian Cricket Team kept getting wickets at regular intervals. Baring Travis Headโ€™s resistance, there wasnโ€™t much to stop India as Australia eventually folded well short of the target.

5 Reasons Indiaโ€™s Perth Test 2024 Win is One of the Greatest

  1. Historic Margin: It was India Cricket Teamโ€™s third-largest Test win by runs on foreign soil.
  2. WTC Table Toppers: The win gives a huge boost to Indiaโ€™s chances of qualifying for the WTC final as they assert dominance at the top of the World Championship 2023-25 points table.
  3. Rare Feat in Australia: Winning the opening Test of a series Down Under is indeed a rare achievement. The first test win in a series in Australia was last achieved by India during the 2018-19 series.
  4. Comeback for the ages: Only once before had a team managed to win by a bigger margin after scoring 150 or less in their first innings โ€” West Indiesโ€™ 343-run victory against Australia in Bridgetown, 1991.

India eye 3rd Back-to-Back BGT win in Australia

Most cricket pundits and experts doubted Indiaโ€™s chances at one of the fastest wickets (Optus Stadium, Perth) in Australia. India has defied all odds in the first test and with the return of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, there will be a confidence boost ahead of the second test.

Cricket fans around the world have been treated to a thrilling start to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and for sure there will be no dearth of entertainment further.

IPL Auction Punjab Kings: 5 Players PBKS are likely target for 2025 Edition

Punjab Kings (PBKS) are building the side from scratch after the least retentions for any team ahead of the IPL 2025 Auction. However, they have the biggest purse and four RTM cards (the most for any team) which presents an excellent opportunity to put together a strong IPL 2025 squad.ย

Hereโ€™s a possible IPL Auction Punjab Kings strategy and five players PBKS could target.

1. Sam Curran

Sam Curran was the stand-in skipper of PBKS in the last IPL edition. Since Punjab has a lot of RTM card options, one of the most sought-after all-rounders in the auction pool may head back to Punjab Kings. If not in the leadership role, the England all-rounder still has a lot to offer.

2. Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada is a proven match-winner in the IPL over the years. The knack for picking wickets at regular intervals โ€“ whether with the new ball, in middle overs, or at the death โ€“ makes him such a rare commodity. With his RTM card, Punjab Kings will have a bowling spearhead in their ranks.

3. Liam Livingstoneย

Liam Livingstone is one of the most destructive T20 batsmen. There are not many players in the auction pool who offer power-hitting like his in the middle-overs of the game. Plus, he is an ambidextrous handy bowler. His RTM card would allow PBKS to plug a crucial gap.

4. Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstowโ€™s ultra-aggressive at the top of the batting order worked well for PBKS in the last season of the Indian Premier League. He can be the second wicket-keeping option after retaining Prabhsimaran Singh. PBKS can retain him for sure.

5. Ashutosh Sharma

Ashutosh Sharma took the cricketing world by storm in the last season with PBKS. For an Indian batsman to possess such a calm head and strong finishing skills is rare and thatโ€™s why Punjab Kings will think about getting him back.

Punjab Kings have a lot to do on auction days. Punjab fans will be hoping that they use RTM cards wisely and on players who can make an impact in the upcoming 2025 IPL season.

IPL Auction Delhi Capitals: 5 Players DC will eye for 2025 Season

The IPL auction for the 2025 IPL season is two days from now. Delhi Capitals (DC) have already made some major managerial changes, with Rishabh Pant and coach Ricky Ponting no longer running things. DC would look to make strategic decisions to bolster its squad for the forthcoming Indian Premier League edition. Hereโ€™s a possible IPL Auction Delhi Capitals strategy and five players who they could target.

1. Jake Fraser-McGurk

We witnessed Jake Fraser-McGurkโ€™s explosive batting at the top of the batting order last year. Maybe the Australian batter wanted to go to the auction pool because of the price tag. Since DC has an RTM (Right to Match) card option up its sleeve, McGurk may possibly head back to the Delhi IPL Team.

2. Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh is another Delhi Capitals player who is a strong contender for the RTM option. First, the Australian T20 captain gives power at the top of the batting order. Second, he is captain material, and DC is looking for one. Third, he has proved his worth with the ball and gives balance to the side.

3. Mohammed Shami

After retentions, Delhi Capitals are short on Indian fast bowler stocks. Mohammed Shami is up for grabs and DC can look at him as their bowling leader. The experienced wicket-taker fits the bill for the Delhi IPL team.

4. Khaleel Ahmed

Khaleel Ahmed was among the best bowlers in the DC ranks in the last season of the Indian Premier League. His release has come as a surprise to many but there is still a chance that DC will repurchase him with one of the two RTM card options they possess.

5. Mukesh Kumar

Mukesh Kumar is another who will be on Delhi Capitalsโ€™ radar. He has raised his bowling stocks with superb performances in the 2024 edition. If not Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar is an RTM option that DC can exercise.

Delhi Capitals have decided on an overhaul and IPL 2025 Mega Auction will be crucial for the side. If they are able to pull off most of the aforementioned acquisitions, they will be in a comfortable position to look forward to the 2025 edition.
